The American Association of Museums has announced its annual awards to outstanding individuals and organizations in the museum community. This year's winners include the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, which received the Museum Accessibility Award for its Picture This! workshops. The AAM Medal for Distinguished Philanthropy was awarded to the Pew Charitable Trusts for its dedication to preserving the nation's cultural heritage and making cultural resources more accessible to a diverse public, while the Award for Distinguished Service to Museums went to Robert R. Macdonald, president emeritus of the Museum of the City of New York, for his thirty-seven years of leadership in the field. And Shannon Beatty received the Nancy Hanks Memorial Award for Professional Excellence for her work as program coordinator for the Wisconsin Maritime Museum's exhibit of a World War II fleet submarine, the USS Cobia.
