Citizen Journalist's Guide to Open Government

Citizen Journalist's Guide to Open Government

March 15 to March 21 is Sunshine Week 2009, a Knight Foundation-funded initiative designed to foster dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. To that end, the Knight Citizen News Network has released the Citizen Journalist's Guide to Open Government, which includes information on what government records are available, how to create record requests, and how to gain access to meetings and courts. The guide also includes an interactive map that provides information on the effectiveness of state government Web sites and a handful of video interviews, including one in which National Freedom of Information Coalition executive director Charles Davis discusses the importance of citizen journalists and access to government information.
