Four Environmental Funders Join the Debate

In response to the fallout from the controversial paper The Death of Environmentalism by Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus, Grist, the environmental news and commentary magazine, invited four environmental grantmakers to weigh in on the debate about the future of the movement. In ongoing conversations posted on the magazine's Web site, Hooper Brooks of the Surdna Foundation, Rhea Suh of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Enrique Salmón of the Christensen Fund, and Stuart Clarke of the Town Creek Foundation mull over everything from terminology and ideology to strategy and the responsibility of funders.
