Global Fund 2010: Innovation and Impact

In time for World TB Day, March 24, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has issued a progress report which suggests that the prevalence of TB in many countries is declining. The report, Global Fund 2010: Innovation and Impact (132 pages, PDF), found that by the end of 2009 Global Fund-supported programs had provided treatment to some 6 million people with active TB as well as some 1.8 million people with TB and HIV — a 150 percent year-over-year increase that has contributed to a decline in TB prevalence and mortality rates in many countries. According to the report, countries around the world are on track to meet the international target of halving TB prevalence by 2015.
