Building Community Strength

Building Community Strength

Building Community Strength (32 pages, PDF), a new report from South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow, explores the needs and opportunities faced by organizations serving, advocating for, and organizing South Asians in the United States. Based on information gained through surveys and interviews of thirty-one organizations, the report found that South Asian organizations are relatively young — 90 percent of the groups participating were formed after 1990 — and that the majority of them operate on budgets of less than $500,000. The report, which was funded by the Citi Foundation, also illustrates the challenges that emerge when a local community becomes more diverse and public policies have an adverse effect on community members.
