In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, the decisions made by individuals and institutions today will have a greater impact on the problems of tomorrow. Looking Out for the Future: An Orientation for Twenty-First Century Philanthropists (executive summary, 8 pages, PDF; full document, 87 pages, PDF) explores the pressures and long-term trends affecting the philanthropic sector and encourages individuals to examine their own giving within the wide range of philanthropic choices now available. A companion piece, Cultivating Change in Philanthropy (33 pages, PDF), is for people working to make the sector more diverse, integrated, and effective. The culmination of a four-year initiative of the Global Business Network and the Monitor Institute, the project was funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
