Museums After School: How Museums Are Reaching Kids, Partnering With Schools, and Making a Difference

The first edition of Insight, a new series of reports from the James Irvine Foundation, focuses on the experiences of ten museums across the state that participated in the foundation's four-year, $4 million Museum Youth Initiative. The report, Museums After School: How Museums Are Reaching Kids, Partnering With Schools, and Making a Difference, found that while museums provide ideal learning environments in which to engage students in an informal way, their programs do not appear to boost formal, in-class achievement. The report also looks at the initiative's outcomes, evaluation findings, lessons learned by participating schools and museums, and the questions that inform the future of museum after-school programs.
