International Charitable Nonprofit Subsector — Scope, Size, and Revenue

Forty percent of U.S.-based international nonprofits ran deficits in 2003 and most operate with slim cash margins, a new report from the Urban Institute finds. The report, International Charitable Nonprofit Subsector — Scope, Size, and Revenue (8 pages, PDF), analyzed data from 2001-03 from about 2,600 nonprofits with at least $25,000 in annual revenue. Despite the discouraging findings, the report found that international nonprofits are experiencing steady growth in terms of both numbers and revenue, and confirms the central role of private support and financing in foreign aid and assistance.
