Knight Commission Public Opinion Poll: College Sports Light on Academics

A national poll (5 pages, PDF) of Americans age 18 and older commissioned by the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics found that, despite NCAA reforms, most Americans are concerned college athletics overshadows academics on campus. Moreover, nearly 80 percent of respondents support a policy that would declare college teams that fail to graduate at least half of their players ineligible for conference championships or post-season play, while 74 percent support a policy of financial rewards for colleges with the highest athlete graduation rates and best NCAA compliance record.
