National Poetry Map

National Poetry Map

April is National Poetry Month, a month-long celebration conceived back in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets as a way to celebrate the literary art form and its vital place in American culture. These days, the academy makes available on its Web site an array of tools and resources tied to the month-long event, including a National Poetry Map. Created with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the map offers information about local poets and poet laureates, poetry events, journals that publish poetry, writing programs, poetry-friendly bookstores, and other resources.
