National Poetry Recitation Contest for 2006

Starting in early 2006, Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, the expansion phase of a pilot program the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation launched last year in Washington, D.C., and Chicago, will encourage high school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. At least 250,000 students are expected to take part in classroom and school-wide contests, with winners advancing to state competitions in April. The NEA will host the national finals in May in Washington, D.C.
