The Adaptation Imperative: Food Security and Climate Change

The Open Society Institute has posted video and audio of a recent panel discussion on the implications for food production and global hunger in the age of global warming. During the 97-minute discussion, Adaptation Imperative: Food Security and Climate Change, Open Society fellow Mark Hertsgaard and Ecoagriculture Partners founder Sara Scherr assess the severity of the problem, which is worsening due to widespread soil erosion and dwindling rainfall in crop-growing regions. The panelists also identify causes for hope, including new farming techniques that can boost crop yields and improve the carbon-storing properties of plants. The panel was moderated by Ross Gelbspan, the author of two books on climate change: Boiling Point and The Heat Is On.
