The Giving Challenge: Assessment and Reflection Report

In late 2007, the Case Foundation, in partnership with Parade magazine, launched a fifty-day giving competition as a way to test the potential of online fundraising. A new report about that effort, The Giving Challenge: Assessment and Reflection Report (25 pages, PDF), notes that the challenge raised nearly $1.2 million from 46,000 donors through the Parade Web site and nearly $572,000 from 25,800 donors through Facebook. To improve on those results in future challenges, the report's authors recommend restricting participation to organizations with annual budgets of less than $1 million, compressing the timeframe, streamlining the event with one name and platform, and improving the donation software.
