Western Pennsylvania Nonprofits: 2004 Wage and Benefit Survey

The extensive 2004 Wage and Benefit Survey (252 pages, PDF) of 181 nonprofits, and more than 18,000 employees, in western Pennsylvania found that the female heads of nonprofit organizations earned an average of $64,830 last year, substantially lower than the $92,691 paid to male leaders. African-American leaders, on the other hand, earned slightly more than white leaders — $76,956 compared to $75, 850. The survey was a joint project of the United Way of Allegheny County and the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management at Robert Morris University.
