For 40 years, the National Women's Law Center has expanded the possibilities for women and girls in our country. The Center uses the law in all its forms: getting new laws on the books; litigating ground-breaking lawsuits all the way to the Supreme Court; and educating the public about how to make the law and public policies work for women and their families. The Center's experienced staff takes on the issues that cut to the core of women's and girls' lives in education, employment, health and reproductive rights, and family economic security, with special priority given to the needs of low-income women and their families.
The National Women’s Law Center seeks a Program Assistant to provide program and administrative support to the Family Economic Security program, which works on issues including child care and early learning; tax and budget; Social Security and pensions; unemployment insurance; welfare; and minimum wage. Candidate will be responsible for preparing documents for distribution (including fact sheets and government relations materials); creating/editing correspondence; managing communications with coalitions; updating and maintaining the Family Economic Security program’s sections of the website; helping with web-based and other research; assisting with conference and meeting preparation including a yearly early childhood meeting in early January; organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files; assembling data and preparing reports; keeping calendars and scheduling appoi ntments; arranging travel, and other program and administrative support.
Candidates should have a college degree or at least two years’ college and two years’ work-related experience. Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and other office programs, are required. Should have strong office skills including attention to detail, proofreading, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and complete work independently. Must be able to work well under pressure and handle assignments from multiple supervisors in an effective manner, with a commitment to the work of the Center. Graphic design and social media skills are a plus.
