ABOUT PENCIL FELLOWS
Launched in 2009, PENCIL Fellows is a key component of PENCIL’s work to improve college and career readiness. The program provides promising New York City public high school students with essential career readiness training that culminates with paid, full-time, six-week summer internships at leading businesses in a range of industries across the five boroughs.
Fellows go through a rigorous screening and application process before being accepted into the program in the fall. Over the winter and spring, Fellows receive training in resume-writing, interviewing and presentation skills, office etiquette, office technology, and software usage. If they successfully complete the training, they are provided with an opportunity to interview for a summer internship with one of the businesses participating in the program. Hiring decisions are made by the business.
