Jessie Ball duPont Fund Announces $1.9 Million in Grants

The Jessie Ball duPont Fund in Jacksonville, Florida, has announced third-quarter grants totaling $1.9 million to twenty nonprofit organizations in eight states.

While the fund typically focuses its giving in Virginia, Florida, and Delaware, grantees in this funding cycle include organizations in Maryland, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C. Grant recipients in Virginia include Trinity Episcopal Church in Lancaster, which was awarded $185,375 to partner with the Northern Neck Food Bank and implement a strategic plan; Virginia Polytechnic and State University, which will receive $125,000 in support of its efforts to expand access to college for first-generation and low-income students; and Virginia Home in Richmond, which was awarded $100,000 to hire a part-time planned giving officer and implement a formal planned giving program.

Florida nonprofits receiving grants include the University of Florida in Gainesville, which was awarded $150,000 over three years to evaluate the implementation of a statewide program designed to improve the future prospects of at-risk girls; Shands Jacksonville Properties, Inc., which will receive $108,423 to provide individual and group nutrition counseling to uninsured patients who visit the UF Health Total Care Clinic; and the Jacksonville chapter of the Salvation Army, which was awarded $100,000 to provide scholarships to homeless children attending its child development center.

In addition, the fund awarded $75,000 to the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington to initiate a challenge grant for midlevel donors to its Centennial Campaign; $111,855 to International Social Service - American Branch in Baltimore to hire a fund development coordinator, provide fundraising resources, and upgrade an existing donor database; and $61,250 to the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, to provide scholarships for female and minority students hoping to attend the Citadel Success Institute.
