The Minneapolis-based McKnight Foundation has announced that forty-five Minnesota artists and ensembles will receive 2008-09 McKnight artist fellowships and residencies.
The foundation provides fellowships of $25,000 per year to selected artists in twelve disciplines as part of the $1.7 million it awards annually to support fellowship programs run by nonprofit arts organizations. This year's fellowships were administered by the American Composers Forum (composers), IFP Minnesota (screenwriters and filmmakers), the Loft (writers), MacPhail Center for Music (musicians), Minneapolis College of Art and Design (visual artists), Minnesota Center for Photography (photographers), Northern Clay Center (ceramic artists), Playwrights' Center (playwrights and theater artists), and the Southern Theater (choreographers and dancers).
"This fellowship program exists to provide Minnesota artists with much-needed time and resources to do their work," said foundation board chair Erika L. Binger. "The return on our investment comes in the form of a robust cultural environment that enriches the lives of people across the state."
