P?rez Art Museum Miami Receives Significant Gift of Art Works

The Pérez Art Museum Miami has announced a gift of nearly three hundred works of art from Dennis Scholl, vice president for arts at the Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and his wife, Debra.

Ranging in medium, age, and origin, the works will be added to the museum's permanent collection. Among the key pieces are Raymond Pettibon's first video animation, a two-part video installation by Aernout Mik, a major installation by Simon Starling, two examples of Liam Gillick's sculptural architectural pieces, Ólafur Elíasson's sculptural installation Your Perfect Lovers, and a slideshow and selection of twenty photographic prints by American photographer Zoe Strauss.

The gift comes as the museum is preparing to move to a new facility that is scheduled to open in December 2013. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & Meuron, the facility will include expanded space for the museum's growing collections and an educational complex.

"The opening of Prez Art Museum Miami is a major moment in this city's cultural history, and as part of Miami's collecting community, it is important to us to contribute so that this city has a significant collection and public art resource," said Dennis Scholl. "We are delighted to continue our support for the museum in a way that we hope will be as meaningful to our community as it has been to us."
