People in the News (11/20/11): Appointments, Promotions, and Obituaries

The Chicago-based Joyce Foundation has announced the planned departure of education program manager JOHN LUCZAK in January 2012. Luczak, who has shaped the foundation's education grantmaking strategy and portfolio for seven years, will join Education First Consulting, where he will help lead their teacher and leader effectiveness practice. Along with education program officer Angela Rudolph, Luczak will continue to be the point of contact for current and prospective grantees through December 30.

Washington, D.C.-based Grantmakers in Health has announced the appointment of JANDEL ALLEN-DAVIS and ANTHONY ITON to its board. Allen-Davis, vice president of government and external relations at Kaiser Permanente-Colorado, is a retired OB-GYN. Iton, a senior vice president at the California Endowment, previously served as director and county health officer for the Alameda County Public Health Department; as director of health and human services and school medical advisor for the City of Stamford, Connecticut; as a physician in internal medicine for Stamford Hospital's HIV Clinic; and as a primary care physician for the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

The National 4-H Council in Chevy Chase, Maryland, has announced the promotion of JENNIFER SIRANGELO from chief development officer to executive vice president and CEO; the promotion of JILL BRAMBLE from vice president of resource development to senior vice president and chief development officer; and the promotion of LYLA HOUGLUM, currently executive director of the organization's Western Extension Directors Association and director of special initiatives for its Oregon State University Extension Service, to special advisor to the National 4-H Council's CEO and liaison to the organization's extension directors and administrators.

In other news, PND notes the passing of EVELYN LAUDER, one of the recipients of this year's Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy. Lauder, daughter-in-law of cosmetics magnate Estée Lauder and a senior manager at the Estée Lauder corporation, founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and was responsible for branding the pink ribbon as the symbol of breast cancer awareness.
