The Athens-based Stavros Niarchos Foundation has announced grants totaling $10.6 million (�8.6 million) to eighteen organizations working to mitigate the consequences of the ongoing socioeconomic crisis in Greece.
Representing the sixth installment of a �100 million grantmaking initiative designed to address mounting social needs in the country, grants were awarded to organizations working in the areas of social welfare, health and medicine, and arts and culture. Recipients include the Association for the Provision of Health Care at Home, Friendly Nest, the Greek Council for Refugees, the Sossidion Nursing Home of Veria, Our Lady of Hope Home of the Elderly, the second thoracic surgery department at the General Hospital of Nikaia "Agios Panteleimon," the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, and New Stage.
Since it launched the initiative earlier this year, the foundation has awarded �36.6 million to organizations in the country with the capacity and ability to use the funds effectively. SNF has said that it will continue to evaluate other charities for inclusion in future installments.
