Moving Walls

Moving Walls

Mission:
To make available to the public an expansive documentary photography collection that chronicles some of the most pressing human rights and social issues of our times.

Background:
Housed on the Open Society Foundations'Web site, Moving Wallsprovides a searchable archive of photographs from the Documentary Photography Project's Moving Walls exhibition series, which provides evidence of human rights abuses, puts a human face on conflicts around the world, and documents the struggles of marginalized peoples. As of 2013, the series has featured more than a hundred and seventy photographers over fifteen years.

Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the site can browse archived photographs by photographer, exhibit, location, or topic — including conflict, war, and aftermath; criminal justice; discrimination; environment; health; migration; women; and youth. Each photographer's work is presented around a theme, accompanied by an artist's statement.
